Orthodontics is the branch of dental medicine which deals with the correction of irregular teeth position and relations between the jaws, during growth and development and even later in life. The target of orthodontics is not only aesthetics, because properly positioned teeth are not only beautiful but are also important for the health of the entire system for chewing, TMJ and muscle and the surrounding tooth structure.

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults especially set a high value on therapy for creating a beautiful smile. Orthodontic braces are not just for children. If the structure of bones and gums is good, irregular teeth can be corrected. Orthodontic treatment in old age can improve self-confidence and appearance, but improving the health of the gums and teeth is just very important.

Braces can be mobile and fixed. Mobile means the device by the patient can be placed and removed from the mouth.

Fixed braces, as its name implies, remains fixed in the mouth until the end of the therapy, and includes brackets that are glued to each tooth and linked with wires. Brackets can be metal, ceramic, sapphire, plastic and even gold.

Invisible braces / removable aligners for teeth

For adult patients, the aesthetic appearance of the orthodontic appliance is often crucial in deciding whether to undergo therapy or not. Modern orthodontics provides a wide range of aesthetic devices, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages, or indications and contraindications.

Newer methods include the use of transparent Medikadent aligner splints. This is a set of transparent splints that are made according to precise jaw impressions with special CAD / CAM technology.

With the guidance of experts, a simulation of the therapy is created, with one splint being made for each phase of tooth movement. According to predefined parameters for individual cases, the software determines how many phases or splints are needed for an individual patient.

In addition to Ortoell braces, the patient additionally receives Aligner Fitter, which serves for better grip of the braces, ie for the most successful therapy. Read more about Alligner Fitter at (LINK)

Braces with metal locks

This is the oldest generation of fixed braces but very effective. It consists of metal locks that are glued to the teeth and connected with wire, which together act to move the teeth. Although they do the orthodontic part very well, some patients are not in favor of it because it is quite visible on the teeth.

On the other hand, for some it can serve as a fashion accessory.

Braces with ceramic locks

It works on the same principle as braces with metal locks, however, locks, the most visible part of braces, are not metal but ceramic. In this way, less visibility of braces is achieved, which some patients consider aesthetically justified.

Your interlocutors will certainly notice this type of brace less, however, the price to be set aside for it will be slightly higher than you would pay for metal locks.

Orthodontic therapy with mobile device

Some cases allow the use of braces that can be removed when the patient does not want to wear it, usually at school, at work, during socializing. Such a brace consists of an acrylic base from which come out wires that will force forces on the teeth to be moved.

The advantage of this type of device – the possibility of self-removal – requires a lot of self-discipline from the patient in order to achieve results. In order for the brace to do its job, it is necessary to wear it for a minimum of eight hours every day, that is, at least during sleep. Some patients fail at this basic step due to the initial discomfort they feel, and then the effectiveness of the braces decreases.

Unlike fixed braces, which require a more comprehensive approach to cleaning and maintenance, mobile braces allow for normal oral hygiene.
